What is an edge in football?

In football, an edge typically refers to the area on either side of the offensive and defensive linemen. The edge is an important part of the game as it allows for the running back or quarterback to make plays by running outside of the tackle box or throwing the ball to the sideline. A player with good edge skills should be able to run fast, change direction quickly, and have good balance. Defensively, players who can control the edge are responsible for keeping the ball carrier from breaking outside and forcing them back to the inside, where other defenders can make the tackle. The battle for control of the edge is an important part of the football game and can often determine the outcome of a play or even the entire game.
